What is the PM-YASASVI Post-Matric Scholarship?
Under the Central Government’s PM-YASASVI Post-Matric Scholarship (Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT Students), students of Haryana belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT) get ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 per year for studies from Class 11 up to Post Graduation (PG). This is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. In Haryana it is implemented by the Social Justice, Empowerment, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and Antyodaya (SEWA) Department, and applications have been taken on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) from the academic session 2025-26 onwards.
The aim of the scheme is that no OBC/EBC/DNT student should drop out after Class 10 for lack of money. The scholarship has two parts — an academic allowance and a tuition fee — and the amount depends on the category (group) of the student’s course. The money is sent directly to the student’s Aadhaar-seeded bank account (DBT).

How Much Scholarship — By Course Group
The scholarship amount depends on the group of the student’s course. Each group includes both an academic allowance and a tuition fee:
| Course group | Which courses | Academic allowance (per year) | Tuition fee (per year) | Total (per year) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Group 1 | Degree and postgraduate level professional courses — MBBS, B.Tech, LLB, MBA, PhD, CA, ICWA | ₹10,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹20,000 |
| Group 2 | Other professional courses leading to Degree, Diploma or Certificate — B.Pharma, B.Nursing, Hotel Management, Mass Communication, ITI (Class 12 entry) | ₹8,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹13,000 |
| Group 3 | Graduate and postgraduate courses not covered in Groups 1 and 2 — BA, B.Sc, B.Com, MA, M.Sc, M.Com | ₹6,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹8,000 |
| Group 4 | All post-matriculation (post Class 10 level) non-degree courses — Class 11–12, ITI (Class 10 entry), 3-year Polytechnic Diploma | ₹5,000 | — | ₹5,000 |
So a Class 11–12 student gets ₹5,000 per year, a BA/B.Sc student gets ₹8,000 per year, and an MBBS/B.Tech student can get up to ₹20,000 per year. In addition, 30% of the funds are reserved for girl students and 5% for students with disabilities.
Caution note on amount and dates: (1) Some websites quote old monthly rates of ₹160–₹750 for this scheme — those are pre-PM-YASASVI rates; the current scheme pays an annual academic allowance + tuition fee (Groups 1–4 table above). (2) Some sources quote an income limit of ₹1.5 lakh for BC/OBC and ₹13,500 for Group-I hostellers — those are old Har-Chhatravratti state-scheme figures; the current Central scheme’s income limit is ₹2.5 lakh. (3) Two last dates appear in sources — NSP’s last date has been extended to 31 January 2027, while some sources cite 31 December 2026 as per the state notification. This guide uses the NSP date, but it is safest to submit the form by December rather than waiting for the last days.
Who is Eligible — Eligibility Conditions
All of these conditions must be met for the PM-YASASVI Post-Matric Scholarship:
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Category | Student must belong to the OBC, EBC or DNT category — a valid caste certificate of the category notified by the Central/State Government is required |
| Domicile | Student must be a permanent resident (domicile) of Haryana |
| Level of study | Post-matric or post-secondary education, from Class 11 up to Post Graduation (PG), in a government-recognised institution |
| Income limit | Parents’/guardians’ total annual income from all sources must not exceed ₹2,50,000 |
| Attendance | Attendance must be at least 75% — verified through an Aadhaar-based attendance system |
| Course type | Must be a full-time course in a notified institution |
Note: Employed students are also eligible — if their own income combined with their parents’ income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakh per year, they can get reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees. Students pursuing CA/ICWA/CS/ICFA are treated as day scholars for the academic allowance.
Who is Not Eligible
- Students studying through correspondence or online courses — they do not get the academic allowance (only tuition fees are paid).
- Students whose family annual income exceeds ₹2.5 lakh.
- Students who do not belong to the OBC/EBC/DNT category.
- Students who are not residents of Haryana.
- Students not enrolled in a full-time course at a recognised institution.
How This Scheme Differs From Other Scholarships
Several schemes run under the name “Post-Matric Scholarship”, which causes confusion. This table clarifies which scheme this guide is about:
| Point | PM-YASASVI Post-Matric (this guide) | SC Post-Matric Scholarship | Class 1–8 Monthly Stipend (BPL/BC-A) |
|---|---|---|---|
| For whom | OBC, EBC and DNT students | Scheduled Caste (SC) students | BPL/BC-A school children |
| Level of study | Class 11 to PG | Class 11 to PhD | Class 1–8 |
| Amount | ₹5,000–₹20,000 per year | Separate rates (SC scheme) | ₹75–₹200 per month |
| Income limit | ₹2.5 lakh per year | ₹2.5 lakh per year | No income limit (based on category certificate) |
| Apply where | NSP (scholarships.gov.in) | NSP (scholarships.gov.in) | Through the school (offline) |
| Whose scheme | Centrally Sponsored (PM-YASASVI) | Centrally Sponsored | Haryana State (Directorate of Elementary Education) |
One more confusion to clear: EBC and EWS are not the same. EBC means Economically Backward Classes — that is a category under this scheme. EWS means Economically Weaker Sections — a separate category with its own separate schemes. Some websites treat the two as one and wrongly list EWS students as eligible for this scheme.
About the Har-Chhatravratti portal (harchhatravratti.highereduhry.ac.in): it is the Haryana Higher Education Department’s state portal hosting the state’s own 16 scholarship schemes. But from the academic session 2025-26, applications for this Post-Matric scheme (SC and OBC/EBC/DNT) are taken on NSP — as per the Haryana Government’s November 2025 notification, these schemes were onboarded on NSP from 10 November 2025. So apply for this scheme on NSP, not on Har-Chhatravratti.
Documents Required
Keep these documents ready for the application:
| Document | For / Note |
|---|---|
| Parivar Pehchan Patra (Family ID / PPP) | Mandatory in Haryana — the application system is linked to it; PPP details must be updated |
| BC/OBC/EBC/DNT caste certificate (digital) | To prove category — the most important document; issued by the competent authority |
| Income certificate | Issued by the Tehsildar — family annual income must not exceed ₹2,50,000 |
| Haryana domicile certificate | To prove permanent residence in Haryana |
| Aadhaar card | For identity, OTR and DBT; must be linked to the bank account |
| Aadhaar-seeded bank account (passbook) | The scholarship will come by DBT into this account |
| College bonafide certificate and fee structure | To prove enrolment in the institution and the fee charged |
| Mark sheets of previous examinations | Class 10, Class 12 and last examination passed |
| College fee receipt | Proof of fee payment |
| Passport-size photo and signature | For the application |
Note: A BPL certificate or father’s death certificate may also be asked for, if applicable. The final list of documents will be the one asked for on NSP at the time of application — confirm the list with your college nodal officer before applying.
How to Apply — Online on NSP
Applications for this scheme are taken only online, on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The process is:
- Complete One-Time Registration (OTR): First go to scholarships.gov.in and complete One-Time Registration (OTR). From the academic session 2025-26, OTR is mandatory for SC/BC Post-Matric schemes — you cannot fill the application without OTR. You need your Aadhaar card and mobile number for OTR.
- Log in: Log in to NSP with the OTR number/reference you received after OTR.
- Select the scheme: Under Haryana state schemes, select “PM-YASASVI Post Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC & DNT Students”. Note — there is a separate option for SC students; select the scheme as per your own category.
- Fill the form: Fill in your personal, academic and bank details correctly. The details must match your Aadhaar and Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP), otherwise verification will get stuck.
- Upload documents: Upload scanned copies of the caste certificate, income certificate, domicile certificate, mark sheets, college bonafide and fee structure, photo and signature.
- Check and submit: Check the form carefully — no mistake in name, income, bank account number or category — then submit it finally.
- Verification by the institution: After submission, the application is first checked by your college/institution’s nodal officer, then by the district nodal officer and then by the state nodal officer. If there is any shortcoming, the application may come back for correction — correct it in time and submit it again.
Important: There is no fee for this scheme and no offline form to fill. If anyone asks for money in the name of this scheme, it may be fraud — immediately inform your college or the NSP helpline.
Application Timeline 2026-27
| Task | Date |
|---|---|
| Applications opened (on NSP) | 9 September 2026 |
| Last date to apply | 31 January 2027, up to 11:59 PM |
| Defective application verification | Till 10 February 2027 |
| Institute verification | Till 10 February 2027 |
| District/State/Ministry verification | Till 20 February 2027 |
The portal gets crowded in the last days and institute verification takes time, so it is safest to submit the form by December — do not wait till 31 January.
How the Money is Paid
The scholarship is sent directly to the bank account (DBT) — to the student’s Aadhaar-seeded bank account. The academic allowance goes to the student and the tuition fee part is paid as per the scheme’s rules. Payment happens only after verification is complete at the institution and district/state levels. If the money does not arrive on time, first ask your college nodal officer — they can tell you the status of the application.
How to Check Status
- On NSP: Log in to scholarships.gov.in and check “Check Application Status” / “Track Application” — it will show at which level the application is (institution, district or state verification).
- On the Har-Chhatravratti portal: The application status can also be seen on harchhatravratti.highereduhry.ac.in (for state schemes).
- From the college: You can also ask your college nodal officer about the application status — if the application has come back for correction, they will tell you what needs to be fixed.
- On PFMS: The payment status can also be seen on PFMS (Public Financial Management System).
How Renewal Works
This scholarship is renewed every year till the course is completed, provided the student’s academic performance is satisfactory and attendance is at least 75% in every academic year. Attendance is checked through an Aadhaar-based system. On the student passing to the next class and confirmation from the institution, renewal happens automatically (auto-renewal) — a fresh application is not needed every year, but the renewal form must be filled on NSP. Note: if a student is repeating the same stage of education in a different subject after passing one stage, or pursuing another professional course after completing one (e.g. LLB after B.Tech/B.Ed), they may not be eligible for renewal.
Common Mistakes in the Application
- Selecting the wrong scheme — NSP has separate schemes for SC, OBC/EBC/DNT and others; select “PM-YASASVI Post Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC & DNT Students” as per your category.
- Not doing OTR — OTR is mandatory from the academic session 2025-26; without OTR the application cannot be filled.
- Details not matching Aadhaar and PPP — name, date of birth and bank details in the form must match Aadhaar and Parivar Pehchan Patra, otherwise verification will get stuck.
- Bank account not linked to Aadhaar — the scholarship comes by DBT, so the account must be active, KYC complete and Aadhaar-linked.
- Attendance below 75% — if attendance is below 75%, the scholarship can stop; keep attendance in mind.
- Waiting for the last date — waiting till 31 January can cause portal congestion and delays in verification; submit the form by December.
- Paying an agent — there is no fee for this scheme; anyone asking for money may be a fraud.
