The Central Government’s Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) gives a social security pension to persons with disabilities. It is part of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and is run by the Ministry of Rural Development. The scheme started in February 2009. Under it, the Centre gives ₹300 a month — only to BPL families with 80% or more disability. After the age of 80, this becomes ₹500 a month.

How much pension is paid

The Centre’s share is ₹300 a month for ages 18 to 79 and ₹500 a month for age 80 and above. Earlier it was ₹200 a month — raised to ₹300 from October 2012. States can add their own share on top, so the total pension differs from state to state.

Who is eligible — all three conditions are necessary

All three conditions must be met together for IGNDPS. First — age between 18 and 79 years. Second — the family must be BPL (Below Poverty Line). Third, and most important — severe or multiple disability of 80% or more, certified by a competent medical authority. Being disabled alone is not enough — people with 40% to 79% disability do not come under this Central scheme.

What Haryana pays — do not confuse the two

Haryana runs its own separate disability pension scheme (since 1981-82), paying ₹3,200 a month from 1 November 2025. It covers Haryana residents with 60% or more disability — so its eligibility is wider than IGNDPS. Keep this clear — ₹3,200 is Haryana’s state scheme amount, not IGNDPS; and ₹300 is only the Centre’s share. How the Centre’s ₹300 fits inside Haryana’s ₹3,200 is not officially clear.

How to apply

There is no single Central online form for IGNDPS — applications go through the Social Welfare Department of the state or Union Territory; information is available on the official portal nsap.nic.in. In Haryana, pension status can be checked on the SEWA Department’s pension portal pension.socialjusticehry.gov.in.
