What is the Haryana Avivahit Pension Scheme?

The Financial Assistance to Widower and Unmarried Persons Scheme, 2023 — commonly called the Avivahit Pension Yojana — is run by the Haryana Department of Social Justice, Empowerment, Welfare of Scheduled Castes & Backward Classes and Antyodaya (SEWA). Under it, people of Haryana who have never married, or men whose wife has died and who have no steady source of income, receive a pension of ₹3,200 per month from 1 November 2025. The scheme gives such people a fixed monthly support so they can meet everyday needs — ration, medicines and household expenses — with dignity.

This increase was applied together with other social security pensions such as the Old Age Samman Allowance, Widow Pension and Divyang Pension. The department’s notification was issued in February 2026, and payment of the increased amount — including arrears from November 2025 — began in February 2026.

The scheme was the first of its kind in the country — when it was launched in July 2023, Haryana became the first state to start a separate pension for unmarried people and widowers. According to government figures placed in the Haryana Assembly in February 2026, the number of beneficiaries nearly doubled in 18 months — from 36,951 to 76,964. The scheme is clearly reaching new eligible people every month.

How Much Pension — The Full Increase History

From Monthly pension
July 2023 ₹2,750
1 January 2024 ₹3,000
1 November 2025 ₹3,200

That means ₹38,400 a year from this scheme. The amount is sent every month directly to the beneficiary’s bank account, so it is very important that the bank account details given in the application are correct and active. The account should be linked to Aadhaar and free of any DBT block — check this before applying.

Who Can Apply — Eligibility Conditions

There are two separate categories in this scheme, and the income rule is different for each. This is the point where most mistakes happen, so understand both separately:

Condition Widower Unmarried person
Age 40 years or above (up to 60 years) 45 to 60 years (men and women both)
Income limit Own annual income up to ₹3 lakh Family annual income up to ₹1.80 lakh
Residence Haryana domicile + residing in Haryana for the last 15 years at the time of application Haryana domicile + residing in Haryana for the last 1 year at the time of application
Extra condition Wife’s death certificate required; divorcees are not eligible Pension stops as soon as the person marries

The conditions above were checked on 7 November 2026 from the department’s official scheme page (sewa.haryana.gov.in). The upper age limit of 60 years is as per the July 2023 Cabinet announcement — on turning 60, beneficiaries automatically move into the Old Age Samman Allowance (see “What Happens After Age 60?” below).

Caution note on the residence period: Several websites claim that an August 2023 amendment made 15 years of residence compulsory for both categories. But the department’s official scheme page (last updated 1 September 2023) still states clearly — 15 years for widowers and 1 year for unmarried persons. This article therefore follows the official page. Before applying, do confirm the current rule at your District Social Welfare Office or Atal Seva Kendra — the condition shown on the SARAL portal’s live form will be final.

Who is NOT Eligible

  • A person who is married — whether living with the spouse or separately.
  • A person who is a divorcee or in a live-in relationship — the department’s official conditions clearly bar this.
  • A person already receiving a government pension or family pension, or employed in a government / local / statutory body.
  • One person cannot take the benefit of two government pension schemes at the same time — for example, Avivahit Pension together with Divyang Pension or Ladli Social Security Allowance.
  • Widow women are not eligible under this scheme — there is a separate Widow Pension Scheme for them (age 18 years or above, ₹3,200 per month). Filling the form in the wrong scheme only wastes time.

Documents Required

Keep these documents ready before applying. Scanned copies of original documents should be clean and readable:

How to Apply Online — Step by Step

Applications for this scheme are made through the Antyodaya SARAL Portal (saralharyana.gov.in). The service is listed on the portal as “Financial Assistance to Widower and Unmarried Persons”. The service name may change from time to time, so search for the service name while following the steps below:

  1. Open the SARAL portal: Go to saralharyana.gov.in. If you do not have an account, register first by filling in your mobile number, email ID and details, then log in.
  2. Find the service: Search the portal for “Financial Assistance to Widower and Unmarried Persons” or pick it from the list of services of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department.
  3. Fill the form: Fill in your name, address, age, Aadhaar number, Parivar Pehchan Patra (Family ID) number, bank account details and information about your category (unmarried / widower) correctly. Write the name and date of birth exactly as on the Aadhaar card.
  4. Upload documents: Upload scanned copies of the Aadhaar card, Family ID, residence proof, income certificate, (for widowers) the wife’s death certificate and the bank passbook, as per the list above.
  5. Check and submit: Read every detail once again before submitting — a wrong account number or wrong name can stop the pension. On submitting, you will get an Application / Acknowledgement Number — keep it safe, as it is needed to check the status.
  6. Verification: Your application will go to the District Social Welfare Officer concerned for verification. The office may ask for the original documents if needed.
  7. Approval and pension: Once the application is approved, you will get a Beneficiary / Pension ID and the pension will start coming to your bank account every month.

Applying through an Atal Seva Kendra (CSC)

If you cannot fill the online form yourself, go to the nearest Atal Seva Kendra (CSC) and get the application made there. The operator will fill the form online with your documents and give you the acknowledgement number.

How to Apply Offline

  3. Attach self-attested copies of the documents listed above.
  4. Submit the filled form at your district’s District Social Welfare Office (DSWO).

Fee and Time Limit

Item Fee / time
Government fee ₹0 (no fee)
Centre service charge (at Atal Seva Kendra / CSC) About ₹10–₹30
Normal time for disposal of the application 45–60 days

Note: The fee and centre charges are as per the department’s SARAL KMS documents and updated sources; the amount shown on the portal at the time of application will be final. If anyone asks you for a large sum of money in the name of this scheme, it may be fraud — inform the District Social Welfare Office or the SARAL helpline immediately.

How the Pension Money is Paid

After approval, the pension is sent directly into the bank account (DBT). The money is usually deposited in the account every month. The first pension may take some time after approval, because payments are made in batches. If the money does not come even one or two months after approval, contact the District Social Welfare Office with your Pension ID and bank details. Make sure the bank account is not closed, its KYC is complete and it is linked to Aadhaar — a wrong or closed account blocks the pension.

How to Check Pension Status and the Beneficiary List

Steps to check the status

  1. Go to pension.socialjusticehry.gov.in.
  2. On the homepage, choose “Track Beneficiary Pension Details”.
  3. Choose the search method — Pension ID, Aadhaar number or bank account number (with IFSC).
  4. Enter your number and fill in the security code (captcha) shown on the screen.
  5. Click “View Details” — your pension status, payment details and beneficiary information will appear on the screen.

How to see your name in the beneficiary list

  1. Go to pension.socialjusticehry.gov.in and choose “View List of Beneficiaries”.
  2. Select your district, area, block or municipality, village or ward, and the type of pension.
  3. Fill in the captcha, view the list and search for your name in it.

What Happens After Age 60?

This scheme runs only up to the age of 60 years — as per the July 2023 Cabinet announcement, on turning 60 the beneficiary becomes entitled to the Old Age Samman Allowance. This change happens automatically: there is no need to fill a fresh form, and the pension (₹3,200 per month) continues without a break.

And if a beneficiary in the unmarried category gets married, the pension stops at once — the very purpose of the scheme is to support those who have no family support. If someone keeps taking the pension after marriage by hiding it, the amount can be recovered.

Do Not Confuse It with the Widow Pension — That is a Different Scheme

Many people confuse the Avivahit Pension with the Widow Pension. These are two different schemes — do not mix them up:

  • Avivahit / Widower Pension (this scheme): For unmarried men and women (45 to 60 years, family income up to ₹1.80 lakh) and widower men (40 years or above, own income up to ₹3 lakh), ₹3,200 per month.
  • Widow Pension: For widow / destitute women, age 18 years or above, ₹3,200 per month.

Please note: the figure of beneficiaries rising from 36,951 to 76,964 in 18 months is for the Avivahit / Widower scheme, not the Widow Pension. Widow Pension beneficiaries rose from 8,71,928 to 8,98,000 in the same period. Mixing the two figures would be wrong.
