Hansi Becomes Haryana’s 23rd District: 110 Villages, 3 Tehsils — No More Trips to Hisar

Hansi is now Haryana’s 23rd district — the Haryana government issued a notification on 22 December 2025 carving Hansi out of Hisar district as a separate district. The new district covers 110 villages of the Hansi and Narnaund assembly constituencies, home to about 5,40,994 people. Residents of Hansi and Narnaund will no longer have to travel 26 kilometres to Hisar for district-level work — the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Superintendent of Police, district court and tehsils will now be in Hansi itself.

The demand for a Hansi district was decades old — Hansi is an older town than Hisar and was once the region’s biggest administrative centre. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the district at a Vikas rally in Hansi on 16 December 2025, the Cabinet approved it on 17 December, and the notification was issued on 22 December. 471 posts have been sanctioned for the new district, and Hansi’s 50-bed hospital is being upgraded to 100 beds.

This page gives you the complete picture — the notification date and legal basis, the district’s full administrative structure, the list of included villages, the benefits for residents, what changed in Hisar district, Hansi’s thousand-year-old history, and how to reach it.

Administrative Structure of the New District

  • Headquarters: Hansi town — on NH-9, 26 kilometres east of Hisar and about 135 kilometres from Delhi.
  • Division: Part of Hisar Division.
  • 2 sub-divisions: Hansi and Narnaund — both carved out of Hisar district.
  • 3 tehsils: Hansi, Narnaund and Bass.
  • 1 sub-tehsil: Kheri Jalab.
  • 3 blocks: Hansi-1, Hansi-2 and Narnaund.

  • Posts sanctioned: 471 — for the smooth functioning of the district administration (Chief Minister, 15 August 2026).
  • Departmental setup: New Public Works Department (PWD) divisions and sub-divisions have also been created in Hansi.

Which Villages Are Included in Hansi District

The new district includes 110 villages of the Hansi and Narnaund assembly constituencies, including Hansi town itself. The full list of villages is published in the notification; some of the prominent villages are: Anipura, Badala, Banda Hedi, Bhaklana, Bhatla, Bhaini Amirpur, Budana, Chanot, Data, Dhani Brahmanan, Kheri Gagan, Kheri Jalab, Kulana, Lohari Ragho, Madan Hedi, Mirchpur, Mohalla, Narnaund, Petwar, Rajthal, Rakhi Khas, Sisai Bola, Sorkhi, Thurana, Ugalan and Umra.

A discrepancy in the village count — flagged, not smoothed: a report dated 16 December 2025 cited the draft proposal as “97 revenue villages and 110 gram panchayats”, while the Cabinet and notification reports of 17–22 December give 110 villages. This page uses the notified figure of 110 villages — to confirm which district your village falls in, check the notification list or the Hansi DC office.

What Changed in Hisar District

  • After Hansi’s separation, Hisar district now has 2 sub-divisions — Hisar and Barwala.
  • Hisar district’s area and population have reduced, but Hisar remains the divisional headquarters — Hansi district is part of Hisar Division.
  • The Hansi and Narnaund assembly constituencies now fall in Hansi district; this has no direct effect on the Hisar Lok Sabha constituency’s boundaries.

History of Hansi — Asigarh Fort

Hansi is older than Hisar — Hisar is said to have been founded in 1354, while Hansi’s foundations were laid centuries earlier.

  • Ancient name: Hansi’s ancient name is Asika — mentioned in Panini’s Ashtadhyayi. The town is also called Asigarh.
  • The fort’s origins: Asigarh Fort is linked to the 11th century and King Anangpal Tomar of the Tomara dynasty — his son Drupad set up a sword-manufacturing factory in the fort, giving it the name Asigarh — the Fort of Swords (“Asi” = sword + “garh” = fort). Swords from here were said to be exported as far as Arab countries.
  • Prithviraj Chauhan: In the 12th century, Prithviraj Chauhan expanded the fort — it is also called Prithviraj Chauhan’s Fort. Its walls are said to be 52 feet high and 37 feet thick.
  • The turning point of 1192: After Prithviraj Chauhan’s defeat in the Second Battle of Tarain, Hansi passed to Muhammad Ghori; in the same year, Jatwan besieged the Muslim commander Nasrat Uddin at Hansi in the Battle of Bagar.
  • George Thomas: In 1798, Irish adventurer George Thomas rebuilt the fort and made Hansi his capital.
  • 1857: The fort was heavily damaged during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 — a large part of it was demolished.
  • Protected monument: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) declared Asigarh Fort a Protected Monument of National Importance in 1937. Spread over about 30 acres on the eastern bank of Amti Lake, the town’s five gates — Delhi Gate, Hisar Gate, Gosain Gate, Barsi Gate and Umra Gate — remain Hansi’s identity today.

How to Reach Hansi

  • PIN code: 125033.
  • Nearest major towns: Hisar (26 km), Rohtak and Bhiwani are connected by road.
