PM Modi to Inaugurate Bengaluru Namma Metro Pink Line on November 13 and Mysuru Planetarium
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the elevated section of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Pink Line on 13 November 2026, in a visit that will also take him to Mysuru for the opening of a new planetarium. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya announced the date, and reports citing official sources say the Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed the visit. After the inauguration, the Prime Minister is expected to travel on the Metro from Tavarekere to the IIMB-Bilekahalli station and launch the services, before heading to Mysuru for a public programme later the same day.
The section opening on 13 November is the 7.5-kilometre elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere along Bannerghatta Road. It received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety on 28 October 2026, clearing the way for its inauguration and the start of commercial operations. The stretch serves busy parts of south Bengaluru, including the areas around IIM Bangalore, JP Nagar and Jayadeva Hospital, and it will take Bengaluru’s operational Metro network to 103.6 kilometres, making it the second-largest Metro network in the country. For commuters on Bannerghatta Road, one of the city’s busiest corridors, the new line promises a faster and more reliable alternative to road traffic.
The elevated stretch is the first part of the longer Pink Line, which runs between Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara over a total length of about 21.3 kilometres. The remaining underground section, running about 13.76 kilometres between Dairy Circle and Nagawara, is still under construction, with trial runs planned and opening expected in 2027; Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has set a target of opening the full Pink Line by May 2027. The inauguration ceremony is expected to be held at a venue near Bannerghatta Road, and the corporation will confirm the final arrangements for the start of regular public services shortly after the inauguration.
In Mysuru on the same day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the world’s first tilted LED dome planetarium at the Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Centre for Higher Learning of the University of Mysore, at the foot of Chamundi Hill. The facility features a 15-metre LED dome tilted at 15 degrees and forms part of the Cosmology Education and Research Training Centre, developed with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics and the University of Mysore to give students and teachers hands-on exposure to astronomy and space science. The venue can accommodate around 160 people, including about 100 students, underlining its role as an education centre as much as a visitor attraction. This will be the Prime Minister’s second visit to Mysuru in four months, following his visit in August 2026 to inaugurate the Viveka Smaraka cultural centre.
Together, the two openings capture the twin themes of the visit: modern urban transport for a fast-growing city and new science infrastructure for students. The Pink Line opening will strengthen Bengaluru’s public transport at a time when the city continues to expand southwards, while the Mysuru planetarium will give Karnataka a distinctive facility for science education. Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar had written to the Prime Minister on 6 October 2026 requesting him to inaugurate the Pink Line section, and the 13 November date now gives commuters and students a clear milestone to look forward to.
