Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Centre’s support to the state, saying nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in central assistance over the past 12 years has transformed Haryana’s infrastructure and economic prospects. Mr Saini made the point in a four-page letter to the Prime Minister on Sunday, 1 November, coinciding with Haryana’s 61st foundation day, in which he also thanked Mr Modi for his greetings on the occasion.

In the letter, Mr Saini credited Mr Modi’s leadership with accelerating the state’s growth and recalled the Prime Minister’s long association with Haryana, dating back to his days as a Bharatiya Janata Party organisational leader. He said Haryana’s 2.80 crore people were grateful for the sustained support the state has received from the Centre.

Mr Modi, in his message for Haryana Day, praised the people of the state for their hard work and dedication, saying they had demonstrated talent and resolve across diverse fields, from agriculture, sports and defence services to industry, education and start-ups. He recalled that Haryana came into existence as a separate state on 1 November 1966 and described its sixty-year journey as one of achievement, public participation and continuous progress.

On infrastructure, the Prime Minister’s message noted that building strong infrastructure for Haryana’s progress has been a priority over the past decade. Over these years, the central government has provided the state with nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in assistance. Today, all districts in the state are connected by national highways, and work is under way to develop 22 new national highways.

Farmers have been major beneficiaries of this partnership, the messages underlined. As many as 24 crops have been procured at minimum support prices, resulting in payments of over Rs 1.8 lakh crore to lakhs of farmers. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, over 15 lakh farmer families in Haryana have received assistance of approximately Rs 8,000 crore, and a bonus of over Rs 1,300 crore has been provided on kharif crops.

Mr Saini said the state had also made unprecedented progress in education, sports, infrastructure, farmer welfare, women’s empowerment and start-ups, and he pledged Haryana’s full commitment to the national resolve of Viksit Bharat 2047. The exchange of letters on Haryana Day underlines the close partnership between the Centre and the state as Haryana enters its Diamond Jubilee year.
