Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday, 1 November 2026, highlighted the 180-acre natural farming facility at Gurukul Kurukshetra, where crops are grown without chemical fertilisers or pesticides, and described it as a model for farmers across Haryana and northern India. He was addressing a function marking the centenary of the martyrdom of freedom fighter and social reformer Swami Shraddhanand and the 114th foundation anniversary of Gurukul Kurukshetra.

Saini said the institution demonstrated how traditional Indian values, modern scientific thinking and environmentally sustainable agriculture could together contribute to national development. He emphasised the need to make education accessible to the most disadvantaged sections of society, and said Gurukul Kurukshetra stood as an example of combining value-based education with practical, sustainable farming.

The natural farming model at Gurukul has been developed without chemical inputs, relying instead on traditional organic formulations prepared from cow dung and cow urine. Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana has earlier described the 180-acre farm as an inspiring model that farmers should learn from and adopt, noting that it shows chemical-free cultivation can be practised successfully at scale.

Haryana launched its Natural Farming Scheme in 2022 to encourage farmers to move away from excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, which the Chief Minister has said harms soil fertility, the environment and health. The state government has promoted the scheme through training centres and awareness programmes, and has offered support such as a subsidy of up to Rs 30,000 on the purchase of a desi cow so that farmers can adopt cow-based organic methods.

Saini has repeatedly urged farmers to adopt natural farming, arguing that it lowers input costs, protects soil health and produces healthier food. At Gurukul Kurukshetra, the model farm serves as a living demonstration for visiting farmers, showing how traditional knowledge and modern scientific methods can be combined in everyday cultivation.

The 1 November function also formed part of the wider Haryana Day celebrations in Kurukshetra, where President Droupadi Murmu attended the state’s Diamond Jubilee programme. The Gurukul event underlined the state government’s message that Haryana’s progress rests on both its cultural heritage and practical models that directly benefit its farmers.
