Haryana completed 60 years of its formation on Sunday 1 November 2026, and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini opened the Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a greeting to every resident of the state. In a message posted early on Sunday morning, the Chief Minister wished the people heartfelt congratulations on the historic occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of Haryana Day, marking 60 glorious years of the state’s journey, and signed off with “Jai Hind, Jai Haryana”.

Haryana came into existence on 1 November 1966 under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, when the Hindi-speaking region was carved out of the former bilingual Punjab as a separate state. Over six decades the state has grown into one of the country’s leading states in agriculture, industry, sports, education and infrastructure, and the 60th anniversary is being marked as its Diamond Jubilee.

The centrepiece of the celebrations is the state-level function at Kurukshetra, where President Droupadi Murmu is the chief guest. The programme at Kurukshetra University includes an exhibition tracing Haryana’s six decades of development and achievements and its vision of a developed Haryana by 2047. The President’s Kurukshetra programme also covers a visit to the Shaktipeeth Devikoop Bhadrakali Temple and the annual commemoration of the centenary of Swami Shraddhanand’s sacrifice at Gurukul, Kurukshetra, and she is to inaugurate the four-day state-level Ratnavali festival running from 1 to 4 November.

District-level programmes are being held across Haryana alongside the state event. In Gurugram, the district ceremony is scheduled for 10 am at the Freedom Fighters District Council auditorium in Civil Lines, with a documentary on Haryana’s cinematic journey and performances of ragni, folk songs and traditional folk dances. In Panipat, the district ceremony is scheduled for 9 am at the auditorium of SD PG College, with the audience joining the Kurukshetra state function directly.

The build-up to the Diamond Jubilee began a day earlier in Panchkula, where Chief Minister Saini himself joined the Run for Unity held on National Unity Day and encouraged the participants. Addressing the gathering there, he administered a pledge to uphold the unity, integrity and security of the nation and said the 60th year of Haryana’s formation should be marked with a resolve to strengthen both the state’s progress and national unity.
