Chhattisgarh Mahtari Vandan Yojana: Amit Shah Releases 33rd Instalment of Rs 632 Crore to 67.4 Lakh Women
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday released the 33rd instalment of Chhattisgarh’s Mahtari Vandan Yojana, transferring Rs 632.63 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 67.4 lakh women across the state. The disbursement took place during the closing celebrations of the three-day Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. According to the state government, 67,33,502 women who have completed their e-KYC formalities received the November instalment, while another 6,908 women from the Niyad Nellanar camp areas of Bastar received their 13th instalment, taking the total number of beneficiaries in this round to 67,40,410.
The Mahtari Vandan Yojana was launched on 1 March 2024 to give monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to eligible married women in Chhattisgarh, with the stated aims of promoting their economic empowerment and supporting their health and nutritional needs. The first instalment of the scheme was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 March 2024. Before Tuesday’s transfer, the state government had already disbursed Rs 20,717.87 crore through 32 instalments. With the 33rd instalment, the cumulative assistance under the scheme has crossed Rs 21,350 crore, making it one of the largest direct-benefit programmes run by any state government for women.
Shah’s visit to Raipur packed three public engagements into a single afternoon. He began at 2.40 pm by inaugurating the Artemis Shanti Hospital on Mandi Road in Pandri, Raipur, a step aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the state capital. At 4.30 pm he inaugurated the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Park, also called People One, in Sector 16 of Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, a new public space created as part of the capital city’s development. He then headed to the Rajyotsav Ground for the closing ceremony of the Rajyotsav, which began on 1 November to mark Chhattisgarh’s Foundation Day and to showcase the state’s development, achievements and cultural heritage.
The closing ceremony also featured State Awards honouring people who have made notable contributions across different fields, along with cultural performances including folk music. The three-day Rajyotsav is organised every year to commemorate the formation of Chhattisgarh and to present the state’s progress to its people. Beneficiaries of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana can check the status of their payment through the scheme’s official portal or its mobile application. Officials have advised women whose e-KYC is still pending to complete it so that future instalments reach their accounts without delay.
For the women of Chhattisgarh, the November instalment arrives as a regular and predictable support payment rather than a one-time announcement. The scheme’s design — a fixed monthly sum paid directly into bank accounts — is meant to ensure that assistance reaches the beneficiary herself, without intermediaries. With more than 67 lakh women covered in a single instalment, the programme now reaches a large share of the state’s married women, and the state government has presented it as a central pillar of its welfare work under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
