Chandigarh: Haryana has made rooftop solar mandatory for government buildings, giving a strong push to clean energy and to the central government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to fast-track the installation of solar plants on government buildings across the state.

At a review of the power sector, the Chief Minister stressed that no government building should be left without solar power. The directive is part of Haryana’s wider effort to increase the share of renewable energy, reduce electricity costs for public institutions and move towards a greener, self-reliant energy future.

Under the push, government buildings are being equipped with rooftop solar plants so that they can generate a part of their own electricity. This will help departments cut their power bills, reduce pressure on the grid and set an example for households and private institutions to adopt solar energy.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which supports households in installing rooftop solar systems with central assistance, is also being fast-tracked in Haryana. Officials have been asked to speed up approvals, installations and awareness so that more families can benefit from free and subsidised solar power.

Haryana’s solar push also includes plans to expand solar capacity through new solar parks and large-scale projects. The state has been working to identify suitable land and infrastructure for these projects, which will add clean power to the grid and support farmers, industries and households.

The Chief Minister has underlined that solar energy is central to Haryana’s development vision. By combining rooftop solar on government buildings, support for households under PM Surya Ghar and new solar parks, the state aims to build a reliable, affordable and environment-friendly power system.

Officials say the rooftop solar drive will also create local jobs in installation, maintenance and servicing, while helping Haryana meet its renewable energy goals. The focus now is on completing installations on time and ensuring that every government building contributes to the state’s clean energy mission.
