The Haryana government has taken major action against the trade in fake and substandard medicines. In a statewide crackdown, 966 drug sale licences have been suspended and 12 manufacturing and blood centre licences have also been suspended. In addition, 15 licences have been cancelled completely and 5 licences have been cancelled partially. Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao said there will be no compromise with the health of the people of the state. The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) department has been directed to take strict action against those who sell or manufacture fake medicines. The government says continuous and dedicated efforts are being made so that citizens get quality and safe medicines.

The drug wing of the FDA ran a special inspection drive from 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026. During these six months, the department inspected 13,590 medicine sale units and 423 medicine manufacturing units across the state. Where rules were violated and irregularities were found, strict action followed. During the drive, 2,389 medicine samples were collected, and testing of 2,189 samples was completed. Of these, 11 samples were found to be of substandard quality. The department has started prosecution in 64 cases against those who broke the rules. A licence suspension means the shop or unit cannot sell or manufacture medicines for a fixed period, while cancellation ends that permission completely.

The drive was not only paperwork. Fake injections worth Rs 70 lakh were seized during the campaign. In April 2026, the FDA seized fake Mounjaro injections, used for weight loss and diabetes control, worth about Rs 70 lakh. In July, a team in Gurugram exposed an inter-state racket making and selling fake Telma-AM blood pressure medicine, and on 28 July the Faridabad team seized a large consignment of fake propylene glycol after a complaint. Police and FDA officials together carried out raids at 376 places across the state. The Health Minister said the government is working on a zero-tolerance policy against those who play with people’s health, and there will be no compromise on the quality of medicines in the market.

People are advised to buy medicines only from authorised and licensed shops and to always take a bill for the purchase. Any suspicious medicine, or a medicine sold without a bill, can be reported to the Health Department or the Food and Drugs Administration. The government says the inspection drive will continue, so that fake medicines do not reach patients. Fake medicines not only make treatment ineffective, they can also put a patient’s life at risk. Along with the action, the department also issued 2,675 new retail and wholesale licences and 20 manufacturing licences in the same period, as part of improving the quality of the medicine trade in the state.
