PM Modi Hails CRPF for Zero Operational Casualties in 12 Months First Time in 47 Years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the Central Reserve Police Force for recording no operational fatalities in 12 consecutive months, a first in 47 years. In a short post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “A ZERO that speaks volumes,” tagging the force, in a message that quickly drew wide attention. The praise came on the same day the force publicly marked the milestone, underlining how rare and significant the achievement is in the history of India’s largest central armed police force.
CRPF Director General G P Singh announced the milestone, saying 12 consecutive months, a full year, had passed without any operational fatality in the force. He said the last operational fatality in the force was recorded on 30 October 2025, and that such a period had last ended in January 1979, 47 years ago. The Director General greeted all personnel of the force on the achievement, calling it a specially significant milestone in the CRPF’s history.
The force has attributed the record to a combination of better training, modern equipment, strategic planning and a sharper focus on post-incident response. Director General Singh pointed to the provision of the latest and contemporary hardware, improved tactical training and high-speed evacuation of injured personnel to secondary and tertiary medical facilities. Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S P Vaid also praised the force, crediting better tactical training, improved technology and modernised protective gear for the improvement.
The CRPF, raised in 1939 and renamed the Central Reserve Police Force after Independence in 1949, is India’s largest central armed police force with about 3.25 lakh personnel. It is the mainstay for internal security duties across the country, with three main theatres of work: anti-Naxal operations, anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir, and counter-insurgency duties in the northeastern states. The force has a long record of sacrifice in the line of duty, which is why a full year without an operational fatality is being seen as a landmark for its personnel and their families.
The milestone also reflects the improving security situation and the lessons the force has drawn from past operations, with officials noting that not losing a single jawan or officer in operations over a year speaks to better preparation on the ground. For the government, the achievement fits its wider focus on modernising India’s security forces and strengthening internal security. The Prime Minister’s public message of appreciation has been read as recognition not only of the force’s leadership but of every jawan and officer whose discipline and training made the record possible.
