The Kabaddi Champions League, which made an impressive entry into India’s franchise-based kabaddi scene with its inaugural season, is preparing for a bigger second edition, expanding from eight teams to ten and raising its total player purse from Rs 4 crore to Rs 5 crore.

Haryana Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam, Olympic medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, professional boxer Neeraj Goyat and Amateur Kabaddi Association of Haryana chairman Kuldeep Dalal are among the sporting figures rallying behind the league, representing government support, sporting excellence, athlete inspiration and institutional leadership.

Gautam attended the inaugural season in Sonipat and praised the league’s efforts to promote kabaddi while keeping its grassroots connection intact, describing kabaddi as being in Haryana’s DNA and welcoming the professional platform it gives young players.

The inaugural edition was held at the Sports University of Haryana in Rai, Sonipat, from 25 January to 7 February 2026, with eight franchises and a player purse of Rs 4 crore. Rohtak Royals emerged as the first champions after defeating Bhiwani Bulls 32-30 in a closely contested final.

For Season 2, the league has added Jhajjar Jaguars and Kurukshetra Knights to take the field to ten teams. The Season 2 auction, held on 17 October 2026, featured more than 300 players, with Ayan Lochab emerging as the most expensive buy at Rs 17.4 lakh for Jhajjar Jaguars, followed by Bharat Hooda at Rs 16.6 lakh for Karnal Kings and Naveen Goyat at Rs 15.2 lakh for Kurukshetra Knights.

The organisers say the inaugural season registered 614.3 million global viewers across television and OTT platforms, figures attributed to BARC and Zee Network, and have set an ambitious target of surpassing 1,000 million viewers in Season 2, as the league looks to take Haryana’s beloved sport to a wider audience.
