Haryana AIIMS Rewari OPD to Begin in December as MBBS Classes Start at Majra Campus
Good news has come for the people of south Haryana from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) coming up at Majra village in Rewari district. MBBS classes have already begun at the institute, and preparations are under way to start outpatient department (OPD) services in December, bringing long-awaited advanced healthcare much closer to home for lakhs of people.
Reports say the OPD could begin by the end of December, with the institute administration working to complete preparations for a December start. Once the OPD opens, patients from Rewari and nearby districts will no longer have to travel to Delhi or other distant cities for specialist treatment, a burden families in the region have carried for years.
The institute is being developed on about 210 acres of land at a cost of around Rs 1,700 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the project on 16 February 2024. The campus is planned as a full-scale medical institution with a medical college, a nursing college, super-speciality departments, intensive care and emergency services, along with an Ayush block.
For medical education, the institute has begun with 50 MBBS seats. Reports say 48 of the 50 students have already started their classes after a wait of nearly eleven months, with the remaining students expected to join soon. When fully operational, the institute is targeting around 1,500 OPD patients a day and about 1,000 admitted patients a month.
The benefit will extend well beyond Rewari district. Patients from Gurugram, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh and Jhajjar in Haryana, as well as Neemrana, Alwar, Jhunjhunu and Kotputli in neighbouring Rajasthan, are expected to use the facility. For serious illnesses, people from these areas have so far depended on referral hospitals far from home.
For south Haryana, the Rewari AIIMS is one of the biggest healthcare projects in decades. The start of MBBS classes marks the institute’s first working step, and the December OPD opening will be the moment ordinary patients begin to feel its benefit — modern treatment, specialist doctors and medical education, all within reach of the region it was built to serve.
