Amit Shah NCDC Meeting: 25-Year Roadmap and Rs 414586 Crore Disbursed to Cooperatives
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah chaired the 93rd meeting of the General Council of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in New Delhi on 29 October, and directed the corporation to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for the next 25 years.
The meeting reviewed NCDC’s financial and institutional achievements, expansion of financing in the cooperative sector, development of new multi-state cooperative societies, strengthening of rural livelihoods and its future action plan. Shah described NCDC’s expansion to every state and union territory as a very significant achievement, with benefits now reaching small farmers, livestock owners, fisherfolk and rural women.
Financial details presented at the meeting showed that NCDC has cumulatively disbursed Rs 4,14,586 crore to cooperative institutions since the establishment of the Ministry of Cooperation, up to 25 October 2026. In the financial year 2025-26 alone, it sanctioned projects worth Rs 1,55,408 crore and disbursed Rs 1,27,596 crore, about five times the Rs 24,733 crore disbursed in 2020-21.
The corporation earned a net profit of Rs 1,475 crore in 2025-26, recorded a loan recovery rate of 99.84 per cent and kept its net non-performing assets at zero. The 3,339 units and projects sanctioned during the year provided benefits to 14,881 cooperative societies, according to the Ministry of Cooperation release.
Shah set two specific targets: making Northeast India self-reliant through cooperatives by 2030, and improving the viability of cooperative sugar mills through circular economy practices — using bagasse for power, molasses for ethanol and press-mud for organic manure so mills earn across multiple value chains.
Disbursement targets of Rs 1.70 lakh crore for 2026-27, Rs 2.10 lakh crore for 2027-28 and Rs 2.50 lakh crore for 2028-29 were also discussed. Shah congratulated NCDC’s officers and employees on the financial performance and zero net NPA, expressing confidence that the corporation would play an important role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of prosperity through cooperation.
