Amit Shah Chandigarh Visit November 1: Nine Projects Worth Rs 258 Crore Including PU-PGI Underpass
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Chandigarh on 1 November, when he will attend the Police Raising Day celebrations and take up nine development projects worth a combined Rs 258 crore. Two projects worth Rs 80 crore will be inaugurated, and foundation stones will be laid for seven projects estimated at Rs 178 crore.
According to officials, Shah will attend the celebrations at the Police Lines in Sector 26 before addressing a public meeting at Tiranga Park in Sector 17. The projects span education, housing, public transport, police infrastructure and sports facilities.
The two projects to be inaugurated are a government high school at Sarangpur, built at a cost of Rs 12 crore, and a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus depot at Raipur Kalan, built at a cost of Rs 68 crore.
Among the seven projects for foundation stones is the much-awaited pedestrian underpass connecting Panjab University and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research across Madhya Marg, estimated at Rs 12 crore. The underpass will connect the university bus stop with the PGI gate, giving pedestrians a safe crossing on a busy stretch of road.
Other foundation-stone projects include 192 Type-III residential units for Central Armed Police Forces personnel at Dhanas, at an estimated cost of Rs 84 crore, a new police station in Sector 49 at Rs 21 crore, and a boys’ hostel at Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology in Sector 26, estimated at Rs 25 crore.
Sports infrastructure also features, with a gymnasium hall at Post Graduate Government College in Sector 46 costing Rs 11 crore, an upgrade of the Sports Complex in Sector 7 at Rs 20 crore, and 15 security checkpoints at entry and border points of the city at Rs 5 crore. Together, the nine projects combine everyday civic needs — schools, housing, transport and sports — with police infrastructure for the capital city.
