The Haryana government has brought major relief to cancer patients and their families. Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCC) are now functioning in the civil hospitals of all 22 districts of the state, so patients can get free treatment and care in their own district. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini virtually inaugurated centres in 17 districts in February 2026; five districts — Ambala, Panchkula, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar and Faridabad — already had such centres. The initiative was announced by the Chief Minister in the Budget for 2025-26 and is now fully implemented on the ground. On National Cancer Awareness Day (7 November), the state Health Department described the facility as a lifeline for patients who need it most.

At these centres, patients can access follow-up chemotherapy, palliative care, supportive care and symptom management. Dedicated Cancer OPDs, Pain and Palliative Care OPDs and structured post-treatment follow-up services are also provided free of cost. The centres work on a Hub-and-Spoke model — PGIMS Rohtak, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Jhajjar, Sarvodaya Hospital Faridabad and the Atal Cancer Care Centre (ACCC) Ambala Cantt act as hubs, giving expert guidance to the district hospitals. The Chief Minister has said that getting treatment at the district level can save a patient up to ₹3.3 lakh on travel, stay and related expenses, since families no longer need to make repeated trips to big cities.

Along with treatment, the government has also eased the financial burden on patients in two important ways. A cancer patient and one attendant can travel free of cost on ordinary Haryana Roadways buses. The number of free travel facility cards issued has grown steadily — 7,617 in 2022-23, 9,408 in 2023-24 and 10,102 in 2024-25. In addition, stage III and stage IV cancer patients receive financial assistance of ₹3,200 per month, provided the family’s annual income is below ₹3 lakh. The assistance is given through the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (SEWA) and 5,807 patients have benefited so far. The amount was earlier ₹3,000 and was raised to ₹3,200 with effect from 1 November 2025. Applications are made online through the Antyodaya SARAL portal. Prevention is receiving equal attention alongside treatment. Under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), regular screening for oral, breast and cervical cancer is being conducted free of cost for people aged 30 years and above, so that the disease can be caught early. For girls, the government has started free HPV vaccination — a single dose for adolescent girls who have completed 14 years of age and are below 15 — which protects against cervical cancer. The Chief Minister launched the campaign from Ladwa on 28 February 2026; registration is done on the U-WIN portal and every beneficiary gets a digital vaccination certificate. More than 13,500 girls had been vaccinated by 22 April 2026. These facilities can be availed by visiting the district hospital or registering on the U-WIN portal.
