State Bank of India has opened online applications for 17 posts of Assistant Manager (Engineer – Fire) in the 2026 recruitment cycle. The application window runs from 4 November 2026 to 24 November 2026, and candidates must apply online through the bank’s official careers portal at sbi.bank.in/careers. The posts are in the Junior Management Grade Scale-I, with a pay scale of Rs 48,480 to Rs 85,920 per month, along with the allowances admissible to officers of the bank. Of the 17 vacancies, nine are for the unreserved category, four for Other Backward Classes, two for Scheduled Castes, one for Scheduled Tribes and one for the Economically Weaker Section, with one post also identified for persons with benchmark disabilities in the hearing category.

For eligibility, applicants should be between 30 and 40 years of age as on 30 September 2026, with age relaxation available to reserved categories as per government rules. The notification prescribes a fire-engineering qualification route: a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Technology or Safety and Fire Engineering from a university recognised by the government or approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. Candidates with an engineering degree in another branch can also qualify when they hold recognised fire-service qualifications, such as the Divisional Officer course from the National Fire Service College, Nagpur, or graduation from the Institution of Fire Engineers in India or the United Kingdom. Applicants are advised to read the full official notification carefully before applying, because it sets out the exact combination of qualification and experience accepted for each route.

The selection process consists of a written examination followed by an interview, subject to the conditions laid down in the notification. The application fee is Rs 750 for General, Economically Weaker Section and Other Backward Class candidates, while candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and persons with benchmark disabilities are exempt from the fee. To apply, candidates should visit the careers section of the bank’s website, open the current openings for Assistant Manager (Engineer – Fire), complete the online registration, fill in personal and educational details, upload the required documents in the prescribed format, pay the fee where applicable, and submit the form before the closing date. Applicants should keep a copy of the submitted form and the fee receipt for future reference, and check the portal regularly for updates on the examination and interview schedule.

Fire engineers play a vital role in a large banking network, where they look after fire prevention, safety audits, evacuation planning, the maintenance of fire-fighting equipment and compliance with safety norms across branches, administrative offices, data centres and other premises. Their work helps protect staff, customers, records and assets, and supports the smooth functioning of day-to-day banking services. With a defined officer-level pay scale, structured career progression and the stability of a public sector bank, the role is an attractive opportunity for qualified fire engineers looking for a specialist career in banking. Interested candidates should not wait until the last day, as the portal can become busy close to the deadline, and any incomplete or late application may not be accepted.
