Haryana CM Saini Says Time Has Come for BJP Government in Punjab After AAP Congress Failed Promises

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has said that the time has come for a BJP-led government in Punjab, arguing that the people of the state are now seeking answers from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party over promises it has not kept. Saini made the remarks at a press conference in Chandigarh on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, after a meeting of the Haryana Cabinet, when he launched a sharp attack on both the Congress and the AAP over their record in Punjab.

According to the Chief Minister, both parties made tall promises to voters but failed to deliver on the issues that matter most to ordinary families. He named three areas in particular: employment for young people, welfare for farmers, and financial assistance for women. Saini said the people of Punjab were now asking the AAP government to account for its promises, and he presented the BJP as the party that could provide a government focused on development and good governance in the state.

On employment, Saini put a direct question to the AAP government. He pointed out that five years had passed and asked how many young people in Punjab had actually been given jobs. The question, he suggested, went to the heart of the AAP government’s credibility on jobs, an issue on which young voters in Punjab have high expectations. By framing the debate around jobs delivered rather than jobs promised, Saini sought to turn the spotlight from announcements to outcomes.

Saini also spoke about the difficulties he said were being created for his own programmes in Punjab. Responding to questions on the issue, he said efforts were being made to prevent the Haryana Chief Minister from entering Punjab and that pressure was being exerted on those organising his programmes. He made it clear that such pressure would not change the BJP’s outreach in the state, and that the party would continue to take its message of development and good governance to the people of Punjab.

The Chandigarh press conference fits into a wider BJP push in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections due in February 2027. In recent days, Saini has campaigned in Punjab, pitching the BJP as the alternative to both the AAP and the Congress. At a youth rally at Balachaur and a community programme at Dharamkot on 1 November, he urged young people to move away from drugs and towards education, employment and development, and he repeated the commitment to make Punjab drug-free by 2029 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The timing of Saini’s statement also matters because the Congress is launching its own Punjab campaign on Wednesday, 4 November, with a major rally at Sangrur. The BJP, for its part, has been running its Loktantra Bachao campaign in response to the opposition’s campaign over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Saini’s Chandigarh remarks therefore set out the BJP’s central Punjab argument in advance of that contest: that the AAP and Congress governments have failed on jobs, farmers and women’s welfare, and that Punjab now needs a BJP government to deliver development.

At the same press conference, Saini also announced that a special session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha would be held on 26 November to mark Constitution Day. That announcement underlines the dual character of the press conference, covering Haryana’s own legislative calendar alongside the Chief Minister’s political message for Punjab, where the BJP is now building its campaign for the 2027 elections.
