Haryana entered its Diamond Jubilee year on 1 November 2026, marking sixty years since the state was formed on 1 November 1966. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini used the milestone celebrations at Kurukshetra University to set out an ambitious goal for the years ahead: Haryana will work towards becoming India’s first developed state and will play a leading role in the national Viksit Bharat 2047 mission. He spoke in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu and Haryana Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh, as crowds gathered to mark the state’s sixtieth foundation day.

Mr Saini underlined the scale of what Haryana has already achieved. Despite covering only 1.34 per cent of India’s geographical area, the state accounts for nearly 3.6 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product. He pointed to progress in manufacturing, in procurement of crops at minimum support prices and in building infrastructure, arguing that this record gives Haryana a strong base from which to aim higher.

In his Haryana Day message, the Chief Minister called on people across the state to work together and to rise above social divisions. He said the six decades since Haryana’s formation should now be turned into a clear roadmap for economic growth, social harmony and prosperity, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. The emphasis, he suggested, should be on shared effort rather than on individual or sectional interests.

The Diamond Jubilee year is expected to be marked by programmes across the state through the coming months, celebrating Haryana’s journey from its formation to its present position while looking ahead to the next phase of development. For Mr Saini, the anniversary is not only a moment to look back, but also a chance to set a new benchmark — a state that leads the country on development, opportunity and welfare as India moves towards 2047.
