The Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of India has opened recruitment for 250 Deputy Field Officer (Technical) posts, a major central government opportunity for engineering and science graduates holding a valid GATE score. The recruitment is advertised as Advertisement No. 02/2026, published in the Employment News issue of 17 to 23 October 2026. The post is a Group B, non-gazetted post at Level 7 of the pay matrix, and the notification puts the initial monthly emoluments at approximately Rs 1,00,000, including allowances, for a posting at New Delhi. The job carries an all-India transfer liability, so selected candidates can be posted anywhere in the country during service. All 250 vacancies are tentative, and they are spread across nine subjects. Computer Science and Information Technology carry 112 posts and Electronics and Communication carry another 112, together accounting for 224 of the 250 posts. The remaining posts cover subjects including Data Science, Physics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics. The notification does not give a category-wise break-up, and the Cabinet Secretariat can revise the number of vacancies at any stage. To apply, a candidate must be an Indian national holding a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology, or a Master’s degree in Science, in one of the notified subjects from a recognised university or institution. A valid GATE score card in the paper matching the subject is compulsory, with qualifying scores from GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026 accepted. The maximum age is 30 years as on the closing date, 15 November 2026, with relaxations for eligible categories under central government rules. There is no online form for this recruitment, which candidates should note carefully. The completed application, in the prescribed form with self-attested copies of the required documents, must be sent by ordinary post only, addressed to Post Bag No. 001, Lodhi Road Head Post Office, New Delhi-110003, and it must reach that address by 15 November 2026. Applications sent by any other mode risk rejection. Selection will be based on the GATE score, with shortlisting in the ratio of five times the number of vacancies, followed by an interview, document verification and medical examination. Candidates should check the official Cabinet Secretariat website, cabsec.gov.in, for the detailed notification and any corrigendum before posting their application, since the official notice prevails over any summary.
