Haryana Police have intensified night patrolling, checking arrangements and CCTV surveillance across the state, following a review meeting at Police Headquarters in Panchkula chaired by Director General of Police Ajay Singhal. District police chiefs have been directed to strengthen night patrolling and nakabandi, to supervise night checking personally, and to ensure that personnel deployed at checking points carry out their duties effectively. The aim is to make policing more visible at night and to tighten surveillance across districts.

A key part of the review was the state’s CCTV network. Officers informed the meeting that 6,644 cameras have been installed across 389 police stations and 327 police posts. The DGP directed that every camera be kept fully functional and monitored regularly, and ordered the formation of a special committee to examine the cameras’ operational status, placement, technical faults and network problems, so that deficiencies are rectified within a fixed time. Superintendents of Police have also been asked to hold regular district-level meetings to review the status of CCTV cameras, including cameras at checking points.

The meeting also reviewed checking arrangements on the ground. Apart from 250 permanent nakas, 288 additional nakabandi points have been identified across the state, and regular checking is being carried out at 40 sensitive locations and border areas. Senior officers have been told to monitor these points regularly, since inter-state and inter-district checking has yielded positive results in controlling crime. A separate drive against vehicles without number plates or without High Security Registration Plates has also been reviewed: between 1 June and 28 October 2026, police checked 31.22 lakh vehicles, issued 2,72,492 challans and impounded 22,269 vehicles.

Technology-led identification was another focus. Physical verification of 47,124 active criminals had been completed as of 29 October, while photographs of 29,416 had been uploaded to the Facial Recognition System, and eleven districts have completed 100 per cent verification of their active records. Districts that have finished verification have been asked to upload details of proclaimed offenders, bail jumpers and most-wanted criminals within the next two weeks, so the database remains available for future identification and monitoring. The DGP also stressed reducing the response time of Emergency Response Vehicles, underlining that prompt police assistance during emergencies is crucial to public safety. Together, the directions amount to a statewide push to combine visible night policing with working cameras and verified records.
