Haryana Bihar Bus Routes: 12 New Inter-State Routes to Connect Gurugram Panipat Ambala with Bihar Cities
Good news for passengers travelling between Haryana and Bihar. The two states are set to start 12 new inter-state bus routes, giving travellers a direct bus service instead of changing buses again and again on the long journey. The new routes will be especially useful during festivals such as Diwali and Chhath, when thousands of people travel to Bihar.
Under the proposed plan, buses from three major Haryana cities — Gurugram, Panipat and Ambala — will run to leading Bihar cities. Direct services are proposed from Gurugram, Panipat and Ambala to Patna, Purnea and Madhubani, while Gurugram and Ambala will also get direct routes to Gaya. The routes will be served by Express, Deluxe, Deluxe AC and AC Sleeper category buses, giving passengers a choice of comfort and fare.
Some of the proposed distances show how long these journeys are. The longest proposed route, Ambala to Purnea, is about 1,470 kilometres. Gurugram to Patna is about 1,044 kilometres, Panipat to Patna about 1,069 kilometres and Ambala to Patna about 1,274 kilometres. Gurugram to Purnea is about 1,267 kilometres, Panipat to Purnea about 1,361 kilometres, Gurugram to Gaya about 1,081 kilometres and Ambala to Gaya about 1,224 kilometres.
The Haryana government has published the draft of the reciprocal inter-state transport agreement between the two states. The Transport Department notification invites objections and suggestions within 30 days of publication in the Gazette, after which the suggestions will be considered and the agreement will be given its final form. The agreement itself was executed on July 10, 2026, and will take effect upon final publication.
Under the new agreement, only state transport undertaking buses will run on the fixed routes, and private buses will not be permitted on them. The maximum age of buses has been fixed at 10 years. The draft also proposes rules on permits, fare fixation, vehicle age, tax collection and pollution standards, along with passenger safety, monitoring of services and action against unauthorised operation.
The running timetable and the number of daily trips on each route have not been decided yet. The timetables will be fixed by the transport authorities of both states in consultation with their transport undertakings. Passengers should confirm the timetable and fare from the official announcement once regular services begin, before planning their journey.
