Haryana Road Canal and Water Projects: New Works Planned in Jind Karnal Sirsa and Rohtak
The Haryana government has initiated a series of infrastructure and public service projects covering road development, canal rehabilitation, drinking water supply, healthcare facilities, tourism and agricultural retail operations across several districts, according to official notifications issued by various departments. The projects, reported on 3 November, form part of the state’s continuing push to strengthen basic infrastructure in both rural and urban areas, with works planned in Jind, Karnal, Sirsa and Rohtak districts, among others.
The Public Works Department has proposed road improvement projects in Jind, Karnal and Sirsa districts. In Jind district, the department has proposed special repairs to the Uchana-Jalab Kheri road, involving construction of a 6.81-kilometre stretch in the Uchana constituency. Government tender records for the work list an estimated value of Rs 5.89 crore, with bids invited between 30 October and 10 November 2026. A separate group of three roads in the same constituency, covering the Alewa-Gohian, Pegan-Durana and Pegan-Popran stretches, has been listed at an estimated Rs 4.65 crore, showing that the road programme in the district extends beyond a single stretch.
The Irrigation and Water Resources Department has initiated plans for canal remodelling and bridge reconstruction in Karnal and Rohtak districts. In Karnal, balance works for remodelling the Augmentation Canal are listed in several reaches, including the stretch from kilometre 19.916 to kilometre 32.500 at an estimated Rs 4.86 crore, along with further reaches between kilometre 58.665 and kilometre 75.150 and associated works such as a tail regulator and a vehicle bridge at RD kilometre 33.983 of the canal. These works are aimed at improving the carrying capacity and safety of the canal system, which serves irrigation and water supply needs in the region.
Road strengthening works are also listed in Karnal district, including the strengthening of roads with dense bituminous macadam and bituminous concrete layers, and link-road repairs in the Assandh area. Together, the road and canal works reflect a two-track approach: better road connectivity for towns and villages, and more reliable irrigation infrastructure for farming areas. For residents, the immediate benefit of the road works will be smoother travel and better access to markets, schools and health facilities, while the canal works support water availability for agriculture over the longer term.
The notifications also cover drinking water supply, healthcare facilities, tourism and agricultural retail operations in other parts of the state, indicating that the current round of works is not limited to roads and canals alone. As the departments move from notification to execution, the projects will be taken up through the normal tender and supervision process, and residents in the affected districts can expect construction activity on the listed stretches in the coming months. The state government has in recent weeks announced similar infrastructure rounds in other districts, underlining that district-level development works remain a regular part of its programme.
