Haryana Ambala 15 Government Primary Schools Get New Format: English Medium From Class 1

Fifteen government primary schools in Haryana’s Ambala district have been given a new academic format, with a clear focus on English-medium teaching from the very first class. Under the change, teaching in Class 1 in these schools will now be fully in English medium. From Class 2 onwards, each class will have one Hindi-medium section and one English-medium section, so that parents and pupils can choose the medium that suits them best. The schools have been linked to their nearest Model Sanskriti, PM SHRI and Chief Minister’s Excellence (CMEEE) secondary schools. This link means primary pupils will also benefit from the laboratories, sports facilities and academic resources of the bigger secondary schools. From the date of the notification, all the changed primary schools will function fully as co-educational institutions. Teachers in these schools will be appointed through a screening and selection process rather than the routine posting process. No extra fee or financial contribution of any kind will be taken from pupils beyond the prescribed funds. From the academic session 2027-28, these schools will begin receiving the school development fund, which will support steady improvement in their infrastructure and facilities. The schools in Ambala district that have received the new name and format include GPS Durana, GPS Baknaur, GPS Kawla, GPS Tandwal, GMSPS Dhanora, GMSPS Dera, GPS Jansui, GPS Nanyola, GPS Barara and GPS Samlehri. The change is part of a larger decision across Haryana under which 279 government primary schools have been renamed — 202 as Chief Minister’s Excellence and Early English Primary Schools and 77 as Model Sanskriti Primary Schools. For families in Ambala, the move brings English-medium primary education closer to home, in their own neighbourhood government schools.
