Haryana will receive Rs 1,484 crore as its share of a fresh round of tax devolution from the Centre, after the Union government released an additional Rs 1,09,019 crore to state governments on October 31. The release is over and above the regular monthly devolution and is the second additional instalment released during the current financial year.

According to the Union Finance Ministry, the additional funds have been released ahead of the festive season so that states get greater financial flexibility. The money is meant to help states step up capital expenditure and meet development and welfare-related spending, giving ongoing infrastructure and public welfare works a timely boost.

Tax devolution is the constitutionally mandated sharing of the Centre’s divisible tax pool with the states, based on the recommendations of the Finance Commission. Under the existing arrangement, 41 percent of the taxes collected by the Centre is devolved among state governments, distributed in 14 instalments during a financial year.

Uttar Pradesh received the largest allocation in this round at Rs 19,208 crore, followed by Bihar at Rs 10,845 crore and Madhya Pradesh at Rs 8,010 crore. Rajasthan received Rs 6,460 crore, while Haryana’s share of Rs 1,484 crore sits alongside Arunachal Pradesh at Rs 1,476 crore and Uttarakhand at Rs 1,244 crore in the state-wise breakup published by the Finance Ministry.

For Haryana, the additional Rs 1,484 crore adds untied resources that the state government can direct towards capital works and welfare commitments at a time when development spending is being pushed across districts. The release underlines the Centre’s approach of putting funds in the hands of states early, so that projects on the ground do not wait for the regular monthly cycle.
