Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney has proposed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi be conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, for his dedication and unconditional service to the nation.

Sahney made the demand at an exhibition in New Delhi themed on Mann Ki Baat and dedicated to the Prime Minister’s 25 years of public service. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the exhibition, which features 76 paintings by artist Manjit Singh reflecting Modi’s years in public life.

Addressing the gathering, Sahney said Modi’s 25 years of public service represented an extraordinary journey of commitment to the nation. He argued that if former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi could receive the Bharat Ratna, then Modi, who raised India’s profile in the G20 and BRICS, deserves the honour as well.

Sahney described Modi as a charismatic leader and said the Prime Minister’s sustained commitment to the people of India deserved recognition through the country’s highest civilian award. He also lauded Modi and Shah for giving the slogan of a drug-free India.

The exhibition, organised by the World Punjabi Organisation, showcases paintings tracing Modi’s public service journey, and Shah felicitated artist Manjit Singh at the event. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu also visited the gallery, followed by a short film on the Prime Minister’s public service.

The demand adds a new voice to the appreciation of Modi’s quarter-century in public life, framing his tenure as one of national transformation and rising global standing for India.
