Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh cannot be dislodged, comparing it to Angad’s foot, and said the Samajwadi Party will not return to power in the state for the next 30 years. He made the remarks on Friday while addressing the BJP’s state working committee meeting in Lucknow, as the party prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections.

Shah told party leaders and workers that there was no doubt about the BJP forming the government again in Uttar Pradesh. He said the party’s government in the state was like Angad’s foot — a reference to the Ramayana character whose foot no one could move — and that nobody could shift it. He added that the people would not forgive the Samajwadi Party even for three generations, pointing to the firing on Ram devotees in Ayodhya on October 30, 1990.

The Home Minister also challenged the Opposition to a debate in Parliament over its allegations of vote theft. He said the BJP was prepared to answer every point raised by its rivals and proposed that a special session be convened for the discussion. Shah said the Opposition, having lost the match, was now blaming the umpire by alleging that votes had been stolen.

The Lucknow meeting, held in the auditorium of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, was chaired by state BJP president and Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and senior party leaders were present, along with district presidents and key office-bearers from across the state.

The day-long session was convened to review the party’s organisational work, strengthen its grassroots network and draw up its roadmap for the elections ahead, when the BJP will seek a third consecutive term in Uttar Pradesh after its victories in 2017 and 2022. Party leaders said Shah’s address would energise workers and give direction to the organisational machinery in all 75 districts.

Shah’s remarks underline the BJP’s confidence heading into the Uttar Pradesh contest and its determination to frame the election around its record in government and its organisational strength. For the party’s cadre, the message from Lucknow was direct: the government is firmly in place, the Opposition’s charges will be answered in Parliament, and the campaign for a third term is already under way.
