Haryana Gurugram Flyovers Panipat Railway Overbridge 500 Roadways Buses Approved
Chandigarh: The Haryana government has approved two new flyovers and an underpass in Gurugram worth Rs 136.41 crore, a new railway overbridge in Panipat and 500 new buses for Haryana Roadways. The decisions were taken at meetings of the High Powered Purchase Committee and the High Powered Works Purchase Committee chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Monday. The projects are aimed at easing traffic congestion in Gurugram, improving connectivity in Panipat and strengthening public transport across the state.
In Gurugram, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority secured approval for three projects at some of the city’s busiest junctions. A six-lane flyover of about 840 metres will be built at Dadi Sati Chowk, at the intersection of Sectors 85-86 and 89-90 in New Gurugram, at a cost of Rs 43.05 crore. A four-lane flyover of about 930 metres will come up at Ambedkar Chowk on Vikas Marg, at the intersection of Sectors 45-46 and 51-52, at a cost of Rs 36.36 crore. An underpass costing Rs 57 crore will be built at the intersection of Sectors 27-29 and 43-44 near the Millennium City Centre Metro Station. For pedestrians, a covered foot overbridge of about 300 metres with four lifts and escalators will also be constructed. Each project has a stipulated construction period of 18 months from the date of allotment.
The new structures are designed to let through traffic bypass junctions that serve fast-growing residential and commercial sectors. The Ambedkar Chowk flyover is expected to improve connectivity towards Park Hospital and Arihant Hospital, while the underpass near Millennium City Centre will ease movement around one of Gurugram’s busiest metro stations. Together, the flyovers and the underpass are meant to cut waiting time at junctions where peak-hour traffic regularly builds up, and to make daily commuting smoother for residents, office-goers and visitors.
The same round of meetings also cleared other important work. A new railway overbridge will be built in Panipat parallel to the existing one on the route connecting GT Road via Dahar to National Highway 709, improving transport facilities in the district and reducing congestion caused by the railway line. The purchase of 500 fully built non-AC diesel buses complying with the latest BS-VI emission standards was approved for Haryana Roadways, along with 24 fully built diesel-engine trucks and diesel exhaust fluid for Roadways depots and sub-depots for the coming year. Officials said the addition of 500 new buses will enhance the operational capacity of Haryana Roadways, improve passenger connectivity and strengthen bus services on various routes.
The committees also finalised other proposals with savings to the exchequer. Of seven agenda items worth an estimated Rs 351.46 crore placed before the High Powered Purchase Committee, four will be re-tendered and three were finalised at Rs 201.51 crore against an estimated Rs 208.91 crore, a saving of about Rs 7.40 crore. Six agenda items worth Rs 227.74 crore before the works committee were finalised at Rs 223.18 crore, saving about Rs 4.56 crore. Approvals also covered furniture for the Sant Shiromani Sri Dhanna Bhagat Ji Government Medical College under construction at Haibatpur village in Jind district, and completion of remaining construction of Type-II residential quarters for teachers at the University of Health Sciences in Rohtak. The approvals underline the state government’s focus on building infrastructure that keeps pace with Haryana’s growing cities while improving everyday services for its people.
