Drinking water supply in Haryana’s Tosham Assembly constituency is set for a major improvement, with two new waterworks projects worth Rs 7.61 crore getting underway. Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry laid the foundation stones for the two projects on Saturday, in a move aimed at strengthening rural drinking water infrastructure for households that face shortages.

The larger of the two waterworks will come up at Azad Nagar village at a cost of Rs 3.88 crore, while the second will be built at Nangal village at a cost of Rs 3.73 crore. Once completed, the two waterworks are expected to improve the supply of clean drinking water to families in both villages, easing the problems caused by water scarcity in the area.

Addressing residents during the foundation stone ceremonies, the minister said access to drinking water is a basic need, and the state government is working steadily to ensure that no village is left struggling for it. She said the projects have been planned keeping future needs in mind, so that supply keeps pace as the population grows.

Alongside the waterworks, Choudhry also announced plans to renovate the canals and distributaries serving the Tosham area at an estimated cost of around Rs 10 crore. Better canals will carry water more reliably to the fields, giving farmers in the area more dependable irrigation and supporting the rural economy of the constituency.

Sarpanch Satpal Singh of Azad Nagar and Sarpanch Ajit Singh were among those present at the programmes, and residents welcomed the start of the drinking water works. The projects add to the development works underway in Tosham, where drinking water, irrigation and rural infrastructure are being taken up together under the state government’s development push.
