Amit Shah to Present Presidents Police Colour to Chandigarh Police on November 1
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will present the Presidents Police Colour to the Chandigarh Police on Sunday 1 November, when the force marks its 60th Raising Day. Shah reaches Chandigarh on Saturday evening for a two-day visit and will stay overnight at the PWD Rest House in Sector 1 Panchkula before heading to the Police Lines in Sector 26 on Sunday morning.
The diamond jubilee parade and colour ceremony will run from 10.30 am to 12.45 pm and will include a guard of honour, parade inspection, march past and salute. Shah will present the colour on behalf of President Droupadi Murmu, and Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who will preside over the function, has said all arrangements are in place. The Presidents Police Colour is the highest honour for a police force, and the colour was assessed by the Bureau of Police Research and Development under the Union Home Ministry.
Chandigarh Director General of Police Sagar Preet Hooda has recalled that the force was reorganised on 1 November 1966 with three police stations and 1,647 personnel, responsible for about 30 sectors and 23 villages. Six decades later, Shah will also flag off 141 new vehicles for induction into the force’s fleet during the visit.
Later on Sunday, from 2 pm at Tiranga Park in Sector 17, Shah will inaugurate completed works and lay foundation stones for other projects, with works worth Rs 262 crore being dedicated during the visit.
The visit falls on Chandigarh’s Foundation Day, and Kataria has described the colour as a recognition that comes as the force turns 60. Shah will leave for Delhi on Sunday afternoon after the Tiranga Park programme, closing a visit that pairs a rare police honour with a set of civic and security projects for the city.
