Residents of Delhi’s unauthorised colonies have been given three more months to apply for ownership rights to their properties under the PM-UDAY scheme. The Delhi government has extended the deadline for fresh applications from 31 October 2026 to 31 January 2027, the government’s revenue department has confirmed.

PM-UDAY, the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana, was launched by the central government on 29 October 2019. It aims to give legal recognition and ownership rights to residents of unauthorised colonies in the capital, enabling families who have lived in these colonies for years to secure a formal title to their homes. The scheme covers 1,511 unauthorised colonies across Delhi.

Under the scheme, eligible residents can apply for a conveyance deed or an authorisation slip, depending on the nature of their property. The revenue department has said that no conveyance deed or authorisation slip will be issued against applications received after the new cutoff date of 31 January 2027, so residents who are yet to apply will need to complete their applications within the extended window.

The original deadline for fresh applications had been fixed in July 2026 as 31 October 2026. Officials said the extension follows a low response from residents so far, with only a few thousand applications submitted, and is intended to give more families time to come forward. PM-UDAY helpdesks in the respective districts are available to assist residents with the application process.

Progress under the scheme so far includes around 40,000 conveyance deeds and authorisation slips issued as of 31 March 2026. With the deadline now moved to 31 January 2027, residents of the covered colonies have a final extended opportunity to apply for ownership documents for their properties and bring their homes within the formal legal framework.
