Haryana Vidhan Sabha Special Session on November 26 to Mark Constitution Day, Announces CM Saini
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced that a special session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha will be held on 26 November 2026 to mark Constitution Day. The announcement was made after a meeting of the state Cabinet in Chandigarh on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. The special sitting will form part of the Constitution Fortnight, known as Samvidhan Pakhwada, celebrations being held across the state.
Constitution Day, observed every year on 26 November, commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India. By convening a special session on the day itself, the Haryana Assembly will join the wider fortnight of programmes aimed at renewing public awareness of constitutional values, the duties of citizens and the responsibilities of elected institutions. The session is being presented as a moment for the House to reflect on the founding document that guides law-making, governance and public life in the state and the country.
The announcement followed the inaugural session of the Janpratinidhi Sammelan at Panchkula a day earlier, on 2 November, which was organised by the Haryana Vidhan Sabha under the Samvidhan Pakhwada. Addressing that gathering, Saini urged public representatives to rise above political differences and work collectively for the development of Haryana. He stressed accountability in public life, constructive debate inside democratic institutions and respect for constitutional values, themes that are expected to run through the fortnight’s events and the special session itself.
At the same press conference in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister also made a political statement about neighbouring Punjab, predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party would form the next government there. He attacked the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party over what he described as unfulfilled promises, presenting his remarks as a contrast between his party’s record and that of its rivals. The comments were reported as the Chief Minister’s own political assessment rather than as a formal government decision.
Director General of Information, Public Relations, Languages and Culture Dr Aditya Dahiya and Additional Director Captain Manish Lohan were present at the press conference where the announcement was made. Their presence underlined the official character of the briefing, at which the special session date was confirmed alongside the wider fortnight programme. With the date now fixed, attention will turn to the formal summoning of the House and the business to be taken up when members gather in Chandigarh on 26 November to mark Constitution Day.
For Haryana, the sitting carries a wider message as well. It places the Assembly itself at the centre of the Constitution Fortnight, reminding members and citizens alike that democratic debate, respect for the rule of law and accountability to the people are daily responsibilities, not only ceremonial ones.
Constitution Day itself recalls the adoption of the Constitution on 26 November 1949, before it came into force on 26 January 1950. For the Assembly, marking the day in session is therefore a way of connecting present-day law-making with the document that created the framework within which the House operates.
