Bharatiya Janata Party MP Naveen Jindal inaugurated the Sansad Khel Mahotsav in Kurukshetra on Saturday, 31 October, a grassroots sports festival aimed at giving young players a platform to showcase their talent. The festival was launched on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, observed across the country as National Unity Day.

Jindal highlighted the growing enthusiasm among youngsters for the MP Sports Festival, emphasising the role of sports in promoting national unity, encouraging youth participation and contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a drug-free India. He said such competitions help identify promising players at the grassroots and guide them towards bigger stages.

Paralympic gold medallist Navdeep Singh also praised the festival, saying it provides grassroots athletes with a platform to showcase their talent and helps them progress from district-level events to state, national and international competitions. District-level coaches can then identify promising talent and guide them towards state, national and even international competitions.

Singh also highlighted the 2027 World Para Athletics Championships as the next major target, with a focus on securing qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The World Championships offer a direct qualification pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, with individual gold medallists in eligible events securing a qualification slot for their respective countries.

The Kurukshetra festival underlines how grassroots sports events in Haryana are being used to spot raw talent early, build sportsmanship and national spirit among the youth, and create a clear pathway from village and district grounds to the world stage.
