PM Modi’s Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026: 500 GW Clean Energy Target and 130 Countries
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on 2 November 2026, opening a four-day gathering that runs until 5 November under the theme Invest, Innovate, Inspire. The summit has drawn participants from more than 130 countries, including over 40 ministers, along with policymakers, investors, financial institutions, industry leaders and researchers. It is being held alongside the ninth session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen, giving it an unusually broad international footprint.
Addressing the inaugural session, the Prime Minister presented clean energy as a matter of both energy security and economic security, arguing that the world’s heavy dependence on fossil fuels keeps exposing economies to disruption. He said India’s non-fossil fuel capacity has already crossed 300 GW and expressed confidence that the country will reach its 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030. Looking further ahead, he announced an ambitious goal of adding about 500 GW of additional non-fossil capacity over the next 10 to 11 years, a target that would roughly double the scale of India’s clean energy system.
The summit is the renamed successor of RE-INVEST, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s earlier investor summit, and it is designed to turn that investment focus into concrete partnerships. Thirteen states and union territories are showcasing their renewable energy potential and investment opportunities, while nine country partners are participating in the programme. The Prime Minister also announced a 200 million dollar Africa Solar Facility, underlining India’s pitch as a partner for clean energy growth in the developing world.
For households, the Prime Minister pointed to the progress of the PM Surya Ghar scheme, noting that more than 65 lakh households have already joined the rooftop solar programme. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, who has been closely associated with the summit’s organisation, has highlighted the same momentum in India’s solar expansion. With investment, technology and international cooperation at its centre, the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026 is positioned as a showcase of how India plans to meet its growing energy needs while steadily reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.
