Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on 2 November, opening India’s biggest global clean energy gathering of the year. The four-day summit, which runs until 5 November, brings together policymakers, investors, industry leaders and innovators from more than 130 countries, including over 40 ministers.

Organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under the theme “Invest. Innovate. Inspire.”, the summit is designed to turn India’s clean energy growth into investment, technology partnerships and manufacturing. Nine countries and groupings — Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom — are taking part as country partners, and thirteen states and Union Territories are showcasing their renewable energy potential. More than 400 exhibitors are displaying advances across solar and wind power, green hydrogen, energy storage and emerging technologies.

The summit is being held alongside two other major platforms: the ninth session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen. Together, the three events make New Delhi the centre of global clean energy discussion for the week. Bharat RE 2026 builds on the legacy of RE-INVEST, India’s flagship renewable energy investment summit, expanding it from a mainly domestic investment forum into a broader platform for international engagement.

India comes to the summit with strong numbers behind it. The country has already installed 308 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity and is working towards 500 gigawatts by 2030, ranking third in the world in renewable energy and solar installed capacity and fourth in wind power. Meeting the 2030 target will need around USD 220 billion in investment between 2027 and 2030, alongside faster energy storage, stronger transmission networks and expanded domestic manufacturing. Investment of USD 63.7 billion flowed into India’s renewable energy sector between July 2024 and June 2026.

The Prime Minister has linked the clean energy push to everyday opportunity — rooftop solar for households through PM Surya Ghar, solar pumps for farmers through PM-KUSUM, and green hydrogen as a new industrial frontier. For India, the summit is both a showcase and a pitch: a chance to present its energy transition as a model for the Global South and to draw the capital and technology that will carry it to 500 gigawatts.
