Haryana Minister Anil Vij Slams Opposition Mock Parliament Says Those Who Walk Out Now Stage Drama at Home
Haryana Minister Anil Vij on Saturday took a sharp swipe at the Congress-led Opposition over its symbolic Parliament proceedings at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in New Delhi. Speaking in Panchkula, Vij questioned the Opposition’s commitment to parliamentary debate, saying leaders who walk out of discussions during actual sessions are now staging a mock legislature at home.
In a post on social media platform X, Vij said those who walk out during real parliamentary sessions are now playing mock Parliament in their drawing rooms. He argued that elected representatives are chosen to raise people’s issues in Parliament itself, and that symbolic exercises cannot substitute for participation in the country’s legislature.
The Opposition’s proceedings on Saturday were staged as a symbolic public impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, presided over by former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, a day before the Opposition’s planned rally in Delhi. The exercise had no formal parliamentary or legal authority to remove the Commissioner, and the BJP dismissed it as a mockery of Parliament and democracy.
Vij’s criticism follows the same line he took in Ambala on 25 October, when he said the INDIA bloc’s mock parliament would pass only a mock resolution and no action is taken on a mock resolution. He said at the time that repeated attempts to attack the government would not succeed because people across the country had rejected the Opposition.
Vij holds the Energy, Transport and Labour portfolios in the Haryana government, and his remarks underline the BJP’s position that the place to debate and decide is Parliament, not a staged sitting outside it. The BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra also attacked the exercise on Saturday, saying the Opposition could keep its mock Parliament but it would not change the outcome of elections.
