Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Clears 22 Proposals: Livestock Mission, Four Link Expressways and Cashless Care for Teachers
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has cleared all 22 proposals placed before it at its meeting in Lucknow on October 27, spanning animal husbandry, road connectivity, education and water transport. Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna briefed the press after the meeting and confirmed that every proposal received approval. The centrepiece of the package is a new State Livestock Mission, described as the first of its kind for Uttar Pradesh, aimed at raising milk production, improving indigenous cattle breeds and increasing the income of livestock farmers. Under the mission, farmers will receive a subsidy for purchasing indigenous cows, limited to two cows per farmer, and the government will pay 85 per cent of the livestock insurance premium, with the farmer contributing the remaining 15 per cent. Poor families will also receive 100 poultry chicks free of cost to encourage poultry farming as a source of self-employment. Animal Husbandry Minister Dharampal Singh said Uttar Pradesh has the largest livestock population in the country and the government wants to make animal husbandry a key source of income for farmers. On connectivity, the Cabinet approved four new link expressways spanning about 322 kilometres at an estimated cost of Rs 17,542.06 crore, to be built by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority under the engineering, procurement and construction model, with completion targeted within three years. The four projects are the Farrukhabad Link Expressway of about 90.90 kilometres, the link connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway of about 50.94 kilometres, the Jhansi Link Expressway of about 106 kilometres and the Jewar Link Expressway of about 74 kilometres. In education, the Cabinet approved cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh for teaching and non-teaching staff in secondary and basic education institutions. It also cleared textile parks in Mainpuri and a new Sainik School in Hardoi, along with handing over 9.524 hectares of land for the expansion of the existing Sainik School in Mainpuri to the Ministry of Defence. Other decisions included the Uttar Pradesh Inland Vessel Rules 2026, the setting up of an Inland Water Authority to oversee water transport on 11 rivers including the Ganga, Yamuna, Saryu and Ghaghra, and investment proposals worth over Rs 1,700 crore.
