Uttar Pradesh’s Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana has facilitated the marriages of 28,833 couples so far in the financial year 2026-27, against an annual target of 72,540 couples, according to figures released by the state’s Social Welfare Department in October 2026. The scheme supports daughters of economically weaker families so that their marriages can be performed with dignity, without forcing families into heavy borrowing or exhausting their savings.

Hardoi district leads the state in the current financial year with 1,385 marriages performed under the scheme, followed by Sitapur with 1,335, Pilibhit with 1,271 and Azamgarh with 1,242. The department has received 1,16,668 applications so far this year, of which 34,845 have been approved, while 11,679 applicants were found ineligible during scrutiny.

Under the scheme, each couple receives financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh. Of this, Rs 64,000 is transferred directly to the bride’s bank account to help set up her new household, Rs 21,000 is earmarked for wedding gifts and materials, and Rs 15,000 is spent on arrangements for the marriage ceremony. To keep the delivery transparent, beneficiaries are verified through e-KYC, income and caste certificates are checked digitally through the e-District portal, and payments are made through the Aadhaar-linked system.

The scheme was launched in October 2017 by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with assistance of Rs 35,000 per couple, which was later raised to Rs 51,000 and then to the present Rs 1 lakh. Its scale has grown steadily since then: by March 2025 it had facilitated 4,76,207 marriages, and a report in June 2026 placed the cumulative total at 5,54,202 marriages.

Eligible families can apply through the Social Welfare Department’s official portal or their district social welfare office, with mass marriage events held on dates fixed by the district administration. With the annual target still open and applications continuing, officials expect the number of couples covered this year to rise further in the coming months.
