PM Modi in Gujarat: Will Serve People Till My Last Breath and Farmers Shielded From Fertiliser Price Rise
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he will continue serving the people of India until his last breath, as he addressed a public gathering in Banaskantha district of Gujarat on Friday. The Prime Minister was speaking after inaugurating the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre at Bhildi, during a two-day visit to the state in which he is launching development projects worth more than Rs 14,000 crore.
Modi said he had completed 25 years in public office on October 7 and that his commitment to public service would remain unwavering. The remark came days after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s controversial comment about the Prime Minister, and Modi used the occasion to reaffirm that serving the people would remain his life’s work.
The Prime Minister also accused some people of rejoicing when the country faces difficulties. He said that amid tensions in the Gulf, rumours were spread that farmers would not get fertilisers and that people would struggle to get LPG cylinders, and that the aim was only to defame him. Modi said the plan was to create chaos in the country, but the government had stood firmly by farmers throughout.
Modi assured the gathering that the government had not let the burden of rising global fertiliser prices fall on farmers. He said fertiliser prices had jumped sharply in international markets, yet the government absorbed the additional cost rather than passing it on. A bag of urea costing around Rs 3,000 in the international market was being made available to Indian farmers for less than Rs 300, while diammonium phosphate costing over Rs 5,000 internationally was reaching farmers at Rs 1,350, he said.
The Prime Minister said his government had always prioritised the welfare of farmers and empowered them through its programmes. He pointed out that Rs 4.5 lakh crore had been transferred to small farmers under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, and that the 24th instalment of the scheme, amounting to around Rs 19,000 crore, was being released during the Gujarat visit.
Modi also highlighted the new bovine breeding centre at Bhildi, spread over 127 acres, as an example of how science and innovation were furthering the welfare of farmers and strengthening animal husbandry and the dairy sector. He later travelled to Ekta Nagar to inaugurate Bharat Parv 2026 and take part in the Narmada Aarti, ahead of the National Unity Day celebrations on October 31 marking Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 151st birth anniversary.
