Haryana Approves Rs 753 Crore Elevated Flyover Linking Greater Faridabad with NIT Faridabad
Faridabad: The Haryana government has approved a Rs 753-crore elevated flyover project to connect Greater Faridabad with NIT Faridabad, clearing the way for work to begin on the ground. The tender for the project is proposed to be issued on 17 December. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister and Tigaon MLA Rajesh Nagar thanked Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for the approval, calling it a historic step for Faridabad’s development and traffic management.
The proposed elevated corridor will run from Sainik Colony Chowk to Greater Faridabad and Amrita Hospital, linking some of the fastest-growing residential and commercial areas of the city with the older NIT Faridabad region. Greater Faridabad, across the Agra Canal, has seen rapid high-rise housing and business development in recent years, and the new corridor is meant to give its residents a faster, signal-free route towards NIT Faridabad and the city’s established commercial centres.
Faridabad is Haryana’s largest industrial city and one of the National Capital Region’s busiest commuter belts, with heavy daily movement between its sectors, industrial estates, hospitals and educational institutions. The existing road links between Greater Faridabad and NIT Faridabad carry growing peak-hour traffic, and an elevated corridor is expected to cut journey times, ease congestion at junctions and improve access to Amrita Hospital and other key destinations along the route.
The approval fits into a wider infrastructure push for the city and the state. The state government has separately cleared major projects in Gurugram and Panipat, including new flyovers, an underpass and a railway overbridge, along with 500 new Haryana Roadways buses, as part of its focus on easing traffic in fast-growing cities and strengthening public transport. For Faridabad, the elevated flyover adds to road, metro and expressway plans aimed at developing it into a modern business and residential hub on the lines of Gurugram.
Officials are expected to move to the tender stage in December, after which construction timelines will become clearer. Once built, the corridor is expected to benefit lakhs of residents of Greater Faridabad and NIT Faridabad, giving daily commuters a smoother route and supporting the city’s continued growth as a residential and commercial centre.
The new corridor will also serve the wider National Capital Region traffic that passes through Faridabad every day, including commuters travelling between Delhi, Ballabhgarh and Palwal. With housing, hospitals and industry all expanding along the Greater Faridabad belt, officials expect demand on this route to keep rising, making an elevated link a long-term investment rather than a short-term fix. Local residents and traders along the route have long sought a smoother connection between the two parts of the city.
