The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has demolished 10 ready-mix concrete plants this week in a crackdown on illegal units contributing to dust and air pollution in the city. Squads pulled down eight plants on Tuesday in Bhondsi, Daulatabad, Behrampur, Dhumaspur and Maidawas, and civic authorities razed two more plants in Daulatabad on Wednesday, bringing the two-day count to 10. The action follows an October 27 letter from the Regional Office (Gurugram South) of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board to the commissioners of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and the Municipal Corporation of Manesar, as well as the District Town and Country Planning department. The board said closure directions had already been issued against non-compliant units, but some plants were still operating illegally after breaking the seals affixed to their plant and machinery. The board further pointed out that these facilities were functioning without basic land and development clearances, including no-objection certificates and change-of-land-use permission from the town planning department or the municipal corporations. An annexure to the letter detailed 63 ready-mix concrete plants across Gurugram and Manesar where formal closure orders had been issued in recent years, while around 31 allegedly illegal and functional plants were specifically red-flagged for direct field action. Teams led by Assistant Engineer Ashish Hooda demolished three plants along Rithoj Road, Jail Road and in Behrampur, a team under Assistant Engineer Hariprakash brought down three plants in Daulatabad, and a team led by Joint Commissioner Sapna Yadav with Junior Engineer Kapil razed two plants in Dhumaspur and Maidawas. Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said air quality control remains an administrative priority and that surveillance and demolition squads will continue targeting unauthorised facilities across the city over the coming weeks, since unregulated concrete batching plants are a key contributor to localised dust and particulate emissions as the region heads into winter.
