Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, questioning Rahul Gandhi’s Mohabbat Ki Dukaan pitch against what he described as the Congress party’s own record. Speaking to the media at Haryana Niwas, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to fulfil the aspirations of 140 crore Indians and empower the poor, while the Congress continues to oppose his welfare initiatives. Saini said the Prime Minister had delivered LPG cylinders to poor households through the Ujjwala scheme and provided them with access to medical treatment. Questioning the Congress slogan, he said its message of love concealed a divisive approach, and asked whether the 1984 riots would also find a place in Rahul Gandhi’s Mohabbat Ki Dukaan. He also referred to incidents in which homes, shops and Dalit settlements were burnt during Congress rule in Haryana, asking whether these too would be put on display. The Chief Minister also took exception to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks concerning the Prime Minister’s family, describing them as deeply unfortunate and saying the people would not forgive the party. Turning to AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Saini asked him to substantiate his education claims, including the claim that the school system developed during his tenure enabled children to become doctors and engineers. Responding to a question about a demand for early elections in Punjab, Saini said the state’s law and order situation had become serious. The remarks underline the Haryana BJP’s line of attack ahead of the opposition’s November 1 programme, contrasting the Modi government’s welfare record with the Congress record in Haryana and at the Centre.
